Discover the state of the art treatment, Invisalign

Invisalign is one of the most discreet ways to straighten teeth without the metal or wires needed for braces.

From a Darwinian perspective, having good teeth is a good indication of your health, how much you drink, smoke, what you’re eating and the health of your entire body. Having straight teeth makes it easier to floss, brush to prevent bad breath, tooth decay and gum disease. It can also help you keep your teeth as you get older.

Invisalign uses a series of clear removable aligners to gradually straighten teeth, without metal or wires making it easier to maintain your optimal oral health.

What’s involved in the Invisalign treatment?

Invisalign uses 3D computer imaging technology to show the complete treatment plan from start to finish. Imaging will be taken from the initial position of your teeth (pre-treatment), to the end result your dentist at Distinctive Dental Care will want to achieve.

From this imaging they make a series of custom-made, see-through aligners that apply gentle pressure to guide your teeth into the desired position. Distinctive Dental Care will replace your aligners at around two weeks and depending on a number of factors, including your current tooth alignment, this will decide how long you will require treatment. Approximately twelve months is the general time frame for achieving results with Invisalign.

What are the benefits of Invisalign?

Discreet treatment: Invisalign aligners are almost invisible so you can straighten your teeth discreetly. They are also removable so eating and drinking isn’t a problem during treatment.

Easy to clean: Traditional metal braces make it hard to brush and floss which can cause decalcification (where calcium is eroded or removed from teeth and bones). Having clear plastic aligners that are removable means you can brush and floss normally making it easier to maintain good oral health.

Comfort: Invisalign aligners are comfortable to wear compared to traditional braces that have metal brackets and wires that can cause mouth irritation.

Less risk: To move teeth force needs to be applied but one of the main problems that can arise from this is root resorption. This refers to the breakdown of the tooth root and could lead to the loss of the tooth. Because Invisalign aligners exert a more gradual force than traditional braces, early indications are that Invisalign treatment exhibits a much lower rate of root resorption.

Safer on teeth: When traditional metal braces are removed from patient’s teeth, this can cause some of the tooth’s enamel to be removed along with them. As Invisalign doesn’t use adhesive to bond brackets to teeth, enamel scouring isn’t an issue.
